Junior outside hitter Halle Sanders and junior middle blocker Arianne Renaud paced the Lady Sharks with seven and six kills, respectively.
“That felt good, because we had a rough weekend,” Lady Mavs’ head coach Susan Kennedy said. “We did really good Thursday and then beat Dickinson in five Friday, but went back to the Dickinson Tourney on Saturday and played bad all day long.
“I pretty much had one hitter that was on and wasn’t sure about what we were going to do. We just put our nose to the grindstone yesterday (Monday) and worked on earning our points with different rotations. We were definitely ready to play and the fans really packed the house with full stands.”
Harness (four aces) and sophomore outside hitter Haily Turner (six aces) appeared to rattle Shadow Creek’s defense on the left side with three aces in their initial two service possessions to pave the way for an early 6-3 Lady Mavs’ lead. Johnson joined Witt-Nobles, Turner and junior middle blocker Morgan Smith with kills to increase the margin into double digits at 20-9.
Sanders delivered a pair of floor shots to bring the Lady Sharks within seven at 21-14, but Witt- Nobles split the Creek defense with a game-ending shot down the middle a few moments later.
“I had noticed that she (Shadow Creek coach Whitney Hilton) had a different libero than she did last weekend (at Dickinson), so I figured she was still experimenting to see who was playing libero for her,” Kennedy said. “So I thought let’s try her out a little bit and it definitely worked for us in the beginning.
